Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID)

AVID is a program, a class, and a way of life.  In the AVID Elective class, students receive daily instruction and support to prepare them for college. AVID impacts students schoolwide as academic strategies like writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organizational skills, and critical reading (WICOR) are taught in all classes by teachers who have been trained to use AVID strategies in their specific content area.

Who is an AVID student?  AVID seeks to support any student who expresses the desire and willing to put in the work required to go directly into  a 4 year university after graduating from high school.  Many of our current students showed potential through proficient through average test scores, but their grades were not matching their potential.  AVID motivates.  Many are the first in their families to go to college and want to develop the academic, organizational, and personal skills to get them there.  AVID guides through the A-G requirements and college application process.  The AVID family is a diverse group of students from communities that have historically been underrepresented on college campuses as well as span all socioeconomic realities. AVID is you!
